Kingsbrae Gardens was started 10 years ago as a way to give back to St. Andrews by some wealthy long-time residents. Today it is a sprawling much-loved 27-acre estate distinguished by its sense of humour. Story by Kate Wallace.

Hi Sandra - there you are on the left coast and here we are on the Bay of Fundy on the east coast - thank you for featuring Kate's article on Kingsbrae Garden in your blog! We are just set to start our 11th year of fabulous gardens and gardening next Friday, May 15th [2009]. Our members get a preview at our annual Members' Garden Party on Thursday the 13th.
This year's big addition is our Sculpture Garden, with our first annual Sculpture Contest, launching on June 13th. We have 17 sculptor finalists, from Newfoundland to British Columbia. Their 18 sculptures will be on display, and the winners [1&2] will receive $10,000 and $5,000 respectively. All other sculptures will be for sale to the public. It's a great lineup and we are very pleased to be exhibiting so many talented Canadian artists.
The Garden is open daily, May 15 to October 10, 2009, from 9 to 6pm. The Kingsbrae Garden Cafe is open 10 am to 6, July & August, and 10-5, the remainder of the season. Plant Centre is open daily as well, with unusual and hard-to-find perennials, shrubs and trees, along with some firm favourites. Some are actually graduates of Kingsbrae Garden.
cheers,
Maureen

There is a photo of the week in the off season as well as a season retrospective.
We also have a Bloom Journal at flickr for anyone wondering what's in bloom a certain week of the year, or just looking for a stellar photo of a particular perennial:
